Radio Work

The window from my apartment overlooks a busy Boston harbor. Tugboats and massive oil tankers instantly caught my attention and led me into a world of whistles and watery physics. I've set sail three times with the tugboats. The story for WBUR-Boston is below.

For the On Point show dealing with luxury goods, I staked out the Hermes shop on Boylston Street in Boston until I found a shopper who had purchased a pair of flip-flops for an astounding sum of money. Thanks to some helpful advice from a producer named Meghna, we sprinkled his comments throughout the hour.

It was during the tail-end of a year spent in Cincinnati, connecting with my roots and helping to care for my Mom, that I found my way into the rich world of radio and audio production. Each of the handful of stories I did in Cincinnati connected with remarkable people who seemed to have found their place in the world - and a measure of acceptance and contentment. Joe and Carla and Mayna ran the diner in a dicey section of downtown, and I was instantly welcomed into their world. Gary the dairy farmer in Kentucky was like a stand-up comedian with an audience of milking cows. My exploits in the caves blew my mind. I wouldn't have made my first descent into the underworld with anyone else but Roger. He's fearless and funny.
